Route IV .- Los Llanos de Brozas Municipal Area: Brozas

The Llanos de Brozas and Alcántara constitute an enormous zone of 51.200,50 hectares of high ecological value. For this reason it has been declared Special Protection Area for Birds and Communitary Important Place, and it has been included in the Red Natura 2000. Traditionally its main vocation has been the shepherding and the production of cereals. This ecosystem in the prairies has been created by men who, worldwide, has been highly valued because birds that needed space opened to take off used this ecosystem as a refuge. Birds can spy to their predators, such as the avutarda, the sisón, the aguilucho cenizo, the alcaraván, the ganga, the ortega or the cernícalo primilla. It is undoubtedly, one of the most important natural monuments of the Region Tagus-Salor-Almonte, and lovers of the ornithology shall visit it. Naturalists can be upset due to the monotony of the plain, the biggest lack of thickness, and the absence of habitat. But be careful because the biological richness, and especially the high concentration of species will clear any doubt when we decide to visit it.
The axes of movementsare the Royal Cañada of Merinas, the Summit Way and the Creek Pathway. The route will start in the Santa Maria La Mayor Church to go down to the Royal Cañada. We will continue walking parallel to Herreruela´s road, ans we will cross the Jumadiel and the road. Later, we will take a track very adapted to see birds, the Summit Way. This one crosses another road: Aliseda´s, and penetrates in the Galaperal place, where the visitor is impressed by the oaks. We will reach the Arroyo Pathway through cattle roads, which are calm and not very frequented. From here and up to Brozas, we will be in the Route of the Wool. This last piece of road goes through Vaqueril and the Jumadieles domains, crossing along a narrow little bridge and entering to Brozas, near the hermitage of the Humilladero.
